Mexico Your surf instructor & retreat host Anthony ![]() Born in New York, Anthony moved to Florida with his family during his childhood and was welcomed into the surfing world of the Atlantic. In 2001, he moved to northern california, bringing his surfboard and snowboard. Ever since, he's been travelling the california coast, north into the mountains and south into mexico, on countless trips, and always with a board. Anthony is a natural and devoted instructor. He teaches snowboarding during the winter at the Endless Slope in San Francisco. Summers, he's in the water almost daily teaching surfing. Anthony says: "Whether teaching surfing, snowboarding, skiing or hiking the lost coast, the thing that always remains constant is the desire to experience something special. I truly love watching the look on a clients' face when they drop in on their first wave, carve their first toe-side turn, or emerge from the forest to find the pacific ocean at sunset waiting for them. Whether six or sixty, it always the same; pure, unadulterated joy and satisfaction. Seeing the six year old smile on a sixty year old face is worth it every time."

In the last 3 years she and Ian have traveled to Peru, Panama, Nicaragua, Indonesia and Spain to surf, explore and enjoy life.
Your surf instructor & host is Ian Both Ian’s parents surfed, and both were Florida state champions. As soon as he could walk he has been surfing, and when you take a lesson from Ian it is hard to not notice his enthusiasm and love of this “lifestyle sport”. Ian’s surfing experience is extensive. From 1984 to 87 he was on the Virgin Islands surf team and traveled to Puerto Rico, Barbados and Costa Rica. In 1995 he was selected for the Eastern Surfing Association All Star Team. From 1997, Ian began to excel as a surf judge in, ranked #1 judge 3 years out of 4, on the East Coast US. When he came to Costa Rica he served as Head Judge for the National Surfing Circuit in World Qualifying Series events. Ian’s attention to detail as a judge has naturally lead to him being a great surf instructor. Being able to discern the smallest of details when a wave only lasts for a matter of seconds means having the ability to pinpoint what a learner is doing wrong. This leads to a much speedier learning process and more fun!
